Te takere library, Levin

Te Takere Library was undertaken by KOA Palmerston North Engineering team.

The library was previously a supermarket building that was redesigned and expanded to house the new library, Te Ao Maori study area, cafe, and meeting areas.

A new air conditioning platform was designed on the roof to service the building.

The design and draughting included demolition and removal of mezzanine floors, columns, ramps and stairs. The new components to the building were new mezzanines, new external canopies and “Towers”. The library was enlarged to include the mezzanine, a new walkway, a modern entry and veranda.

This is an example of an innovative design to repurpose an existing vacant building.
